Choiselle Joseph is a writer and artist from Barbados. Her recent poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in Rust & Moth, Gone Lawn and elsewhere, and she was a 2023 NIFCA Visual Arts medalist. Her writing seeks to intersect the mundane and the surreal, exploring themes of myth, gender, and decolonisation through an Afro-Caribbean lens. Frustrated by the pigeonholing of black women in the literary mainstream, she founded The Saartjie Journal as a home for the strangest, most inventive work by black women writers and artists. She believes strongly that black women deserve the creative freedom to make art in all forms that is absurd, bewildering, and, simply put, weird.
