Choiselle Joseph is a writer and artist from Barbados. Her recent poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in petrichor, Rust & Moth, Gone Lawn and elsewhere, and she was a 2023 NIFCA Visual Arts medalist. Her writing seeks to intersect the mundane and the surreal, exploring themes of myth, gender, and decolonisation through an Afro-Caribbean lens. Frustrated by the pigeonholing of black women in the literary mainstream, they founded The Saartjie Journal as a home for the most inventive work by black women writers and artists. They believe strongly that black women deserve the creative freedom to make art in all forms that is transgressive, bewildering, and, simply put, weird.
